This thesis presents the microwave dielectric properties of two novel dielectric resonator materials with the composition Ca(Ca1/4Nb2/4Ti1/4)O3 and Ca(Ca1/4Ta2/4Ti1/4)O3 ceramics and their application in the fabrication of wideband antennas. The microwave dielectric properties of the ceramics were tailored by several techniques such as doping, glass addition and solid solution formations in the complex perovskite A and B-sites with suitable substitutions. Among the wide variety of DRs developed, ceramic resonators with optimum properties were identified to fabricate broadband dielectric resonator loaded microstrip patch antennas. Furthermore, wideband, high permittivity dielectric resonator antennas were fabricated and explored the possibility of tuning their characteristics by modifying the feed line geometries.

This thesis is devoted to the study of some stochastic models in inventories. An inventory system is a facility at which items of materials are stocked. In order to promote smooth and efficient running of business, and to provide adequate service to the customers, an inventory materials is essential for any enterprise. When uncertainty is present, inventories are used as a protection against risk of stock out. It is advantageous to procure the item before it is needed at a lower marginal cost. Again, by bulk purchasing, the advantage of price discounts can be availed. All these contribute to the formation of inventory. Maintaining inventories is a major expenditure for any organization. For each inventory, the fundamental question is how much new stock should be ordered and when should the orders are replaced. In the present study, considered several models for single and two commodity stochastic inventory problems. The thesis discusses two models. In the first model, examined the case in which the time elapsed between two consecutive demand points are independent and identically distributed with common distribution function F(.) with mean  (assumed finite) and in which demand magnitude depends only on the time elapsed since the previous demand epoch. The time between disasters has an exponential distribution with parameter . In Model II, the inter arrival time of disasters have general distribution (F.) with mean  ( ) and the quantity destructed depends on the time elapsed between disasters. Demands form compound poison processes with inter arrival times of demands having mean 1/. It deals with linearly correlated bulk demand two Commodity inventory problem, where each arrival demands a random number of items of each commodity C1 and C2, the maximum quantity demanded being a (< S1) and b(

The Raman and FTIR spectra of [C(NH2)3]2M(SO4)2 ·6H2O (withM= Co, Fe, Ni) were recorded and analysed. The observed spectral bands are assigned in terms of vibrations of guanidinium ions, sulphate groups and water molecules. The analysis shows that the sulphate tetrahedra are distorted from their free state symmetry Td to C1. This is attributed to the presence of hydrogen bonds from water molecules. The order of distortion of the metal oxygen octahedra influenced the distortion of the sulphate tetrahedra. The appearance of 1– 3 modes of water molecules above 3300 cm−1 indicates the presence of weak hydrogen bonds

Raman and FTIR spectra of [Cu(H2O)6](BrO3)2 and [Al(H2O)6](BrO3)3 · 3H2O are recorded and analyzed. The observed bands are assigned on the basis of BrO3 − and H2O vibrations. Additional bands obtained in the region of 3 and 1 modes in [Cu(H2O)6](BrO3)2 are due to the lifting of degeneracy of 3 modes, since the BrO3 − ion occupies a site of lower symmetry. The appearance 1 mode of BrO3 − anion at a lower wavenumber (771 cm−1) is attributed to the attachment of hydrogen to the BrO3 − anion. The presence of three inequivalent bromate groups in the [Al(H2O)6](BrO3)3 · 3H2O structure is confirmed. The lifting of degeneracy of 4 mode indicates that the symmetry of BrO3 − anion is lowered in the above crystal from C3v to C1. The appearance of additional bands in the stretching and bonding mode regions of water indicates the presence of hydrogen bonds of different strengths in both the crystals. Temperature dependent Raman spectra of single crystal [Cu(H2O)6](BrO3)2 are recorded in the range 77–523 K for various temperatures. A small structural rearrangement takes place in BrO3 − ion in the crystal at 391 K. Hydrogen bounds in the crystal are rearranging themselves leading to the loss of one water molecule at 485 K. This is preceded by the reorientation of BrO3 − ions causing a phase transition at 447 K. Changes in intensities and wavenumbers of the bands and the narrowing down of the bands at 77 K are attributed to the settling down of protons into ordered positions in the crystal

Th(BrO3)3·H2O single crystals were grown from its aqueous solution at room temperature. Single crystal XRD, Raman and FTIR techniques were used to investigate the crystal structure. The crystal structure was solved by Patterson method. The as grown crystals are in monoclinic system with space group P21/c. The unit cell parameters are a = 12.8555(18) Å, b = 7.8970(11) Å, c = 9.0716(10) Å,  = 90°,  = 131.568° and  = 90° and unit cell volume is 689.1(2) Å3. Z = 8, R factor is 5.9. The Raman and FTIR studies indicate the lowering of symmetry of bromate anion from C3V to C1. Hydrogen bonds with varying strengths are present in the crystal. The centrosymmetric space group P21/c of the crystal is confirmed by the non-coincidence of majority of Raman and IR bands

Distribution of toxic metal in the sediment core is an important area of research for environmental impact studies. Sediment cores were collected from two prominent region(C1 and C2) of CE and subjected to geochemical analysis to determine distribution of toxic metals (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu and Pb ), texture characteristics, total organic carbon (TOC) and CHNS. Statistical analysis was done to understand the interrelationship between the components. In the studied cores, metal contamination level was identified for Pb, Cu; Cr, in C1 and C2 respectively. The metal distribution depends on the granulometric factor, geogenic mineral components and anthropogenic input. Correlation analysis (CA) and Principal component(PCA) analysis also support these results
